On June 17, 2005, IFGF GISI Houston church held a Hawaiian Night. This night was created to bring a fun and creative atmosphere into the church. Everyone was told to wear a Hawaiian outfit, if not they would be punished. The event was coordinated by our sister Aurora Lanny, and everyone in the church helped out in the event. Our church helped decorate the fellowship room beautifully and also helped prepared the wonderful food. The whole night was focused on Hawaii, even the food. That night we ate chicken and beef shish-kabobs with pineapple fried rice. For the beverages, we drank pina coladas and golden punch. Some lucky few also drank the young coconut juice. After our dinner, we were led by our sister Eva Muljadi in some songs of praise and worship. We gave thanks to God for His goodness and also to bless the event. Finally, after the praise and worship, we were told to go outside to have some fun and games.
Ebert Widjaya and Grace Sianipar were our masters of ceremonies and led us in the Hawaiian games. Since there were some unfamiliar people present that evening, we started our event outside by introducing ourselves. We were asked to say our name and status. Later on in the evening we started our first game. The first game that we played was trying to follow Adam Muljadi's and Dion's Hawaiian dance. After that game, we all got in a line to do some limbo. We started out our limbo with some practice rounds, and then we got serious. The bar kept on going lower and lower until it reached the point of our knees. The winner and most flexible person in our church was Arnold. He was able to bend back the farthest without falling. After our limbo, we held a small contest to see who people thought wore the best Hawaiian outfit. The six finalists were then told to walk the catwalk in a mini fashion show. The winners were Jeanny Laurent and Haris.
Following the fashion show was the punishment for everyone who didn't wear something Hawaiian. Their punishment was to do the hula until everyone was satisfied with the way they danced. Subsequent to the punishment was the Macarena. Even though it wasn't Hawaiian we still did it anyways and had fun doing it. We ended the Hawaiian night inside in prayer. Then, we ate again. We ate watermelons and pineapples; some even ate the kabobs again.
