Christmas is truly a special time of the year, time to celebrate the birth of the Son of God. As it has always been, approaching Christmas day, churches around the world put significant efforts to celebrate the wonder of God’s love for this world. The entire Indonesian churches in Houston area were also taking part of this celebration by preparing a united celebration at the Indonesian Consulate with the spirit of joy and unity.Representatives from four Indonesian churches worked together and really put a great deal of hard work putting a great program to celebrate Christmas. Aurora, from IFGF church, was in charge of coordinating last year’s Christmas which was held on December 22, 2007. It started at around 5 P.M. with some heavy snacks and beverages, but not until one and half an hour later, the program started. Haniel led the audience to praise and worship with some warming hearts Christmas songs to begin the program. Then, four Pastors or leaders from the four churches lit the candles while the congregation sang Silent Night. Pastor Benignus Wego SVD from KKIH (Catholic Church of Houston) shared the Word along with the theme, Christmas and Peace. Yes, indeed Christmas always go together with peace. Christ himself whose birth we celebrate on Christmas Day came to earth to bring peace to everyone who open their heart for Him.
Mr. Fahmi Pasaribu, the Indonesian Consul General in Houston, and Aurora gave remarks for the night following the praise worship and Christmas message. To add the cheer of the Christmas’ celebration, joined effort from the churches in Houston presented a drama entitled “Christmas Miracle”, a play based on a touching story that surely left lasting impression of everybody in the auditorium. The night became more special as the children’s fashion show started. Children from all churches dressed nicely and showed cute and captivating modeling. For sure the laugh and cheer soon filled the auditorium that night. Toward the end of the program, Santa Claus gave away gifts to the congregation, which surely left a warm fulfilling Christmas spirit in everyone’s heart who attended the service.
