When there is a meeting, there will be a farewell; it is just a question of when. This time, we have to bid goodbye to our brother Marvin who will be leaving for Los Angeles on June 9, 2007. Although Marvin has been with us for only 4 months, we already built strong friendship.

When he first came to join us in Houston, he was a quiet person. As time went by, his shyness was getting over. Now, we did not realize if we had built a good friendship with him that without him, we feel that somebody important is missing. He is caring and easy going, but funny, too, in many occasions.

The night before Marvin left Houston, we held a small farewell party hosted by Ingrid. He was specially decorated on that special night with a good-looking hat plus long dangling earrings and nose ring. Some of us passed shared comments and interviewed him in a position like he was being interviewed for a job. We also had a slide show showing the memories we shared with him.

Before the party was over, the V.O.G. Care Group presented the song “Friends” composed by Michael W. Smith. Then, we persuaded Marvin to come out of the church in pretense to breathe in Houston’s air for the last time. To his surprise, as he came out, a few of us chased after him to drench water combined with flour onto him. However, he was very understanding and could take in the fun. Just before the party was over, Pastor Somi led us in prayer for Marvin. Afterwards, he was ushered to wash himself and get himself clean with some clean and dry clothes we have prepared.

Marvin, wherever you go, we believe God will always guide and bless you. Always trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).
