On Friday night, May 25, 2007, around 40 headcounts joined the movie night “Facing the Giants” at IFGF church. We began the good night at a little bit past seven with pizza and soft drink. That continued to the sanctuary where everybody was seated and the light was dimmed, so the movie was started.“When all things seem to go wrong in your life, will you give up on God?” That is one of the messages sent by the movie. The Christian’s faith-based movie wrapped in almost two hours duration inspired and encouraged us about how we should trust in God throughout all circumstances we face in our lives. The story was about Grant Taylor, a high school football coach who has been coaching the Shiloh Eagles for six years, but the dream of winning yet still seems too far. After several games showing no promise for improvement, a discussion among the players' fathers to have him fired finds his future in football seems to be meeting a dead end, and added personal problem at home, Coach Taylor is faced with the prospect of either admitting defeat and living as a loser or turning his life over to God in an attempt to test the true power of faith. With renewed perspective and strengthened faith, Coach Taylor convinces his determined team of underdogs that there's nothing they can't accomplish with little faith. Coach Taylor’s faith to God does not only bring his team to an impossible winning, yet to a great new perspective of living in Christ.
The happy-ending story for sure has touched the heart of the audience. Positive comments were coming out as we divided ourselves into three groups for the night’s discussion. Thank you to Geoffrey, Imelda and Kevin who acted as our moderators for the night. During the discussion, we reflected on the values that we learned from the movie and shared out thoughts with the group. The group moderated by Imelda concluded that not only was “Facing the Giants” a good movie, but also was very inspirational. As Imelda opened up a discussion on what the movie was about, everybody in the group started throwing out the lessons learned from the movie. They all agreed that to face the giants in our lives, we need to firmly believe in God, involve Him in every decision, to seek God in times of trouble, and to prepare our field for God to send the rain as our act of faith. Valdi even shared a testimony about him pursuing an education to pharmacy school. Despite the struggles he faced during the process to get in, God opened the way by blessing him the admission to the school. At the end of the discussion, the group said out loud all of the ideas everybody received from the movie as a declaration of faith. The movie was impacting the group as they went home blessed.
